Sarah Altic, Owner

M.S., CCC-SLP

Sarah is a state-licensed, ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist with over 10 years of experience in a variety of settings including schools, home health, early intervention, and private practice working with children of all ages. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in speech pathology from Purdue University. Sarah is PROMPT-trained and enjoys working with children with apraxia, or suspected apraxia of speech as well as phonological disorders. In her free time, she likes to be outside hiking, reading, or gardening.

Lyndsay Coleman

M.S., CCC-SLP

Lyndsay is a certified speech language pathologist in the states of Tennessee and Indiana! She received her undergraduate degree from Purdue University and master’s degree from State University of New York at Fredonia in Communication Disorders & Sciences. She has been practicing for 4 years within schools, private practice, outpatient clinics, acute care, and post acute rehabilitation centers. She loves this field because of the large diversity of patients and students she has had the ability to work with. With children, she is experienced in diagnosing and treating various speech, language, and feeding impairments. She is now SOS-trained, and looks forward to implementing this approach with her feeding clients.

Rosemary O’Brien

M.S., CCC-SLP

Rosemary is a certified speech language pathologist in Tennessee. She received her undergraduate degree from Murray State University and master’s degree from Purdue University in 2020. She has had experience working in the school and outpatient clinic settings. She enjoys working with children with early language skills, articulation, and fluency. She loves being part of a team with children and their family members, in order to help children continue learning and communicating effectively with others.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and credit cards (VISA, MC, DISCOVER, AMEX). 

What is the process for getting my child started in therapy?
  1. Contact us! Call, email, or click the “contact us” button on the main page.
  2. If using insurance, we will verify benefits and coverage for your specific plan.
  3. We will contact your child’s pediatrician for a signed order for speech therapy.
  4. We will send you the intake paperwork via a secure online portal for you to sign electronically and submit back to us.
  5. Once those are done, we will contact you to set up an evaluation at our office.
  6. The evaluation will be completed and if your child qualifies, a treatment plan will be created with goals for therapy.
  7. Therapy begins!
What is involved in an evaluation?
  1. A standardized assessment will be completed by one of our speech-language pathologists.
  2. In addition, other informal assessments such as a language sample, oral mechanism exam, or intelligibility rating may be completed.
  3. Parent interview to understand your concerns and goals for therapy to develop a plan together.

Sick Policy

Discover Speech Therapy, LLC will follow the policy below in regards to illness.

All patients, or parents/guardians of patients, shall telephone to cancel and reschedule appointments when the patient demonstrates one (1) or more following symptoms within 24 hours of an appointment:

  • Fever (>100 degrees F)
  • Vomiting/Nausea
  • Open/Draining Lesion
  • Lice
  • Chicken Pox
  • Measles
  • Productive cough
  • Impetigo
  • Conjunctivitis/Pink Eye
  • Strep Throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Any Other Contagious Disease Not Listed

Following this policy will aid in the protection of the health of the staff, other patients, and family members and is greatly appreciated.

Attendance Policy

In order to better serve you and make quicker progress toward goals, regular attendance is imperative.

Cancellation of an Appointment: If an appointment needs to be canceled, please provide at least a 24-hour notice by calling, texting, or emailing Discover Speech Therapy, LLC. In an emergency situation (sudden illness within the last 24 hours, illness of a family member, and/or death in the family), please provide as much notice as possible.

Late Cancellations and/or No Shows: A “late cancellation” is a non-emergency cancellation made within 1 hour of the scheduled appointment. A “no show” is not arriving for your scheduled appointment without notifying Discover Speech Therapy, LLC prior to the scheduled appointment time, and/or being more than 15 minutes late for the scheduled appointment. After three (3) “late cancellation” or “no show” appointments, the client may be discharged.

Regular Attendance: If a client attends less than 75% of scheduled appointments in a given calendar year, a client may be discharged.

Title VI Notification and Complaint Process

Discover Speech Therapy, LLC complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000d et seq.), which states that “no person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Any person who believes that discrimination has occurred by our practice on the basis of race, color or national origin, including limited English proficiency (LEP), in violation of Title VI may file a written complaint with the Tennessee Human Rights Commission. Individuals with LEP may request interpreter services, at no cost to the individual. Complaints must be filed within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory act. A complaint may also be placed directly to our practice. You can request a complaint form by emailing info@discoverspeechtherapy.com, requesting one in person from Sarah Altic, owner, or providing written request by mail to 10241 Kingston Pike, Suite 3, Knoxville, TN, 37922. For more information, please contact the Tennessee Human Rights Commission.
